AFMA Forum

The AFMA Forum was held from 3-5 March 2020 at the Sun City Convention Centre. The AFMA forum is hosted by the Animal Feed Manufacturers Association and is conference held every 4 years, attracting international speakers and guests. In 2020 we also saw the first Ruminant Formulation Workshop held with international experts giving talks on ruminant nutrition.
The main speakers of the event included Mr Nick Serfontein (Sernick Group), Prof Barry Bradford from Kansas State University and Dr Roy Brister, Tyson Foods Inc. The event was attended by almost 400 industry role players from all over South Africa and Africa.

The aim of presenting the 2020 Ruminant feed Formulation Workshop was to give South African Nutritionists the opportunity to access world class speakers and gain new skills and knowledge.
Roné Vermeulen presented a talk on the importance of Feed Analysis for Ruminant Nutritionists at the AFMA Feed Formulation Workshop 2020. Other international speakers at the event included, Dr Ermanno Melli & Emiliano Raffrenato, NDS Italy, NDS Italy, Dr Luiz Ferraretto, Department of Animal Sciences, University of Florida.

Feed First Industry Day 2019
Feed First hosts an annual industry day aimed at bringing together international experts and our local nutritionists and clients. In 2019 the speakers included international microbiome expert, Professor Richard Ducatelle, Prof Neil Duncan from the University of Pretoria, Professor Peter Plumstead, Technical Director at Chemunique, as well as David Brandt. The Feed First Industry Day was held at Klein Kaap Boutique Hotel in Centurion.

Feed First offers specialized laboratory services for the animal feed industry, as well as validations and training for clients on the NIR instruments





Dewald Steyl attended the 2017 ESPN (European Symposium in Poultry Nutrition) in Spain. This international conference, held every 2 years, draws nutritionists from all across the globe and features presentations given by the top experts in poultry nutrition worldwide.
Dewald Steyl presented his research for his MSc degree in Animal Nutrition at the ESPN poster session. His research related to essential oils and organic acids to improve gut health and performance of broilers.
